River inset: the land in wood with the river cut out of it and a blue acrylic (or painted) sheet underneath showing through, roads and contours engraved on the banks, and a raised plaque. River raised: a wood board with the river standing on it as one blue piece, tributaries and all, and the pin on top. Contour: the valley in stacked sheets, one per level, with the river cut down through every one of them to the blue sheet below. Where a name or a mark lies on the valley floor, a window is cut round it in the steps above so it still reads. Engraved: one board, the river a solid burn with the pin left as bare wood in it. Printed: a full-colour map printed on a UV flatbed, then cut to shape.
