Can I send the result to the halftone editor, gang sheet, or mockup?
Yes. From the Export menu you can download a flattened PNG, save the editable .overtone project, or hand the finished design straight off to the Halftone Editor, Gang Sheet Builder, or Mockup Studio. All hand-offs pass the flattened PNG; the editor can also send a design back into the Effects Stu... -
Does Frames blur the edges of my image?
No, and that is deliberate. A real blur creates semi-transparent pixels, and those are exactly what causes white haze on a DTF transfer. Frames dissolves instead: the edge breaks up into grit, halftone dots, or scallops. At arm's length it reads as a soft, blended fade, but every pixel stays full... -
How do I stop a square graphic from looking like a sticker stuck on the shirt?
Use Frames. Open the Frames tab in the Effects Studio, pick an edge texture (or one of the Dot Fade / Torn Edge presets), and the hard outer edge of your artwork dissolves so it blends into the garment instead of reading as a pasted rectangle. It works on any hard-edged graphic — photos, screensh... -
Yes. Every effect is a live layer you can reorder, toggle, adjust, or remove — nothing is baked in until you export. You can also Save Project as a .overtone file (downloaded and kept in your browser's recent projects) to reopen and keep editing your exact layer stack later.

Is the Effects Studio included in my plan?
Yes — it's bundled with every ToneSmith web-app subscription and Lifetime/Founder plan at no extra charge, alongside the halftone editor, gang sheet builder, and mockup studio. The only exception is ToneSmith Lite, which is the Photoshop plugin sold standalone and does not include the web tools. -
Part of my original hard edge is still showing after adding a Frame
Raise the Bite slider. Bite is the portion of the edge band that is always removed no matter what the texture says, so it guarantees no straight original edge survives. The default is 25%; push it to 40% or higher on artwork with a very strong border. Increasing Depth gives the dissolve more room... -
Mode (Erase knocks the edge out, Overlay paints a colour into it). Shape (rectangle, rounded, ellipse). Measure from (the artwork's visible pixels or the full canvas). Inset and Depth, with a Link sides toggle so you can set each edge independently. Falloff, Bite, Roughness, Seed, and Invert. Tex...

Seven families, stackable in any order: Chromatone (gradient-map recolor), Screentone (halftone-pattern texture overlays), Patina (real grunge textures with blend modes), Throwback (vintage fade/tint looks), Grit (grunge brushes you paint by hand), Frames (dissolve the hard outer edge of a graphi...

The Effects Studio is a live, non-destructive effects editor for your already-finished artwork. Instead of separating or halftoning, it stacks print and apparel effects — grunge, distress, vintage looks, textures, and recolors — on top of a finished design. It's included with every web-app plan (...

Which Frames texture should I start with?
Dot Fade is the best starting point for photos and full-colour art — the dots thin out toward the edge and read as a true gradient fade while staying print-safe. The Grit edge textures suit distressed, vintage, and streetwear designs. Torn Edge and the Scallop styles suit badges, labels, and patc... -
Will the grunge effects cause white haze on my DTF prints?
No. The Grit grunge brushes (in Erase mode), Frames, and the dedicated Crisp tool produce binary-clean alpha — every pixel is fully opaque or fully transparent, with no semi-transparent edge pixels. That faint partial transparency is exactly what causes the white halo around DTF transfers, and Cr...
